I will address the use of blogs for use with Jr. High age students for a reading class.
1)Have the students read a blog that pertains to something important to them such as music or movies. After reading, they respond by posting their comments. This makes them read for comprehension as they need to be able to understand what they read in order to comment on it.
2)Students could blog about a book they are reading to each other and the teacher. I think this could work with a common book the whole class is reading, within reading groups where a small group is reading the same book, or even to spark interest in others on a book that is being individually read and blogged about
